hereby apply to THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS for a SPECIAL EXCEPTION in accordance
with the ZONING ORDINANCE ARTICLE IV SECTION 408
SUBSECTION (a) and Article VIII Section 801 (0)
THE SPECIAL EXCEPTION IS REQUESTED BECAUSE signs permitted under ~408
are inad8quate considering the sise of the building, the nature of
occupancy, the desire to attract transients and persons who can not
be reached by newspaper advertising and the like.
A previous application was made for a special exception (three
separate applications) in connection with signs for the new building
housing the bowling alley. The exceptions were granted. In the case
of two applications, the signs were erected as proposed and in ac-
cordance with the permits granted. These previous applications
were made by a sign maker under contract with the landlord of the
present tenant. The present tenant, the~plicant here, occupies the
premises under a long term lease, is the operator of the bowling alley
and directly concerned with the usefulness of the signs.
The applicants seeks permission for signs of a reasonable size
under the circumstances, reasonably placed in relation to the building
and the surrounding buildings and the use to which the premises are
being put, and which at the same time serve a useful purpose mn advising
the transient public of the recreational facility afforded by the ap-
plicant's business.
The applicant is prepared to show at the hearing facts on which
the Board can base a favorable finding.
