Mr. Robert W. Gillispie, Jr., Chairman
Southold Town Board of Appeals
East Marion, N. Y.
Dear Sir:
In re::erence to our reeent conversation, I have listed below the complaints
received from the Krupski Labor Camp, Bridge Lane, Cutchogue, during 1962. You
will notice t'iat the Camp i.s somet.imes referred to as Bolling 's, Tetterton I s or
Brewington's. Trese men are Crew Leaders and supply t.he help, etc.. The propert.y
is owned by Isadore Krupski. The above mentioned men frequently change from one
Camp to anot.her, and the new place becomes known by their name.
On Aug. 5th, an unknown colored male threw lye, or potash, in the face of one
John Reynolds, CIM, at R. Bolling Camp, Bridge Lane. Subject was admitted to E.L.I.
Hospital for observation, and released the next day. On Aug. 26th, Willie Fuller,
cjM, st.abbed Paul Williams, CIM, in the back, at Brewington's Camp, Bridge Lane.
Puller was char2ed 'with Jrt! degree assault and received a JO day suspended sentence.
The above are t.he only two inddents in which a Patrolman was sent to this Camp.
On Sept. Jrd, Albert Zanowski, Bridge Lane, came to Police Hqs. inquiring as
to the disposi.tion of the Fuller-i'lilliams case. when advised that Fuller received
a JO day S.,S., Zanowski expressed his dissatisfaction with the leniency of the
sentence considering the seriousness of the crime. Williams injury consisted of
a ~" stab wound in the right shoulder which was closed, by the doctor, with a
'butterfly'. On Sept. lOth, Al Zanowski appeared at headquarters complaining that
the Robert Bolling Camp, Bridge Lane, had no Camp Permit, and also that they have
colored girls at the Camp. I went with Mr. Zanowski and questioned Robert Bolling
who stated that he had lost his permit. I reported this to 5gt. Kanehl, of the
State Police, who said he would follow through on it. Workers occasionally go to
Zanowski's house to use the telephone.
As for the incident rate in this Camp, it is no greater than in any other
Camp in town. My experience has been t.hat the incident rate in these Camps is in
direct proportion to their size. It is quite possible that there have been other
incidents in these Camps that have not come to the attention of this department.
Hoping this information will be helpful, I remain,
~elY yours,
Theo. B. Howard,
Chief of Police
