Dear Members of the Board,
I write to request your assistance in preserving the marsh at the end of Little Neck Road
in Cutchogue. I have discussed this issue with Mr. Krupski and he has been very
helpful; however, he advised a more formal discussion. I grant permission for the Board
to come on our property to investigate this matter. (3600 Little Neck Road, Tax Map
Number 1000103000900013003)
The immediate issue is that when the town highway department dumped gravel at the
end of the road to improve the boat launch, they extended the gravel over about three
feet of grass land, and the truck tracks destroyed several feet of grass. Since then, cars
turning around at the end of the road have followed in the truck tracks and driven closer
and closer to the point where the marsh drops off. This puts both the marsh and the
drives in danger. The town dumped gravel well over our property line and buried our
property marker so deep that we had to have surveyors come out to find it.
At Mr. Krupski's initiation, the town put up some temporary stakes to warn drivers of the
edge of the marsh. While this protects the cars and trucks, it does little to allow the
marsh grass to grow back.
We are looking for a solution that protects the upland marsh grass and bushes and at
the same time allows cars and trucks to turn around. My concern is that the traditional
fence is not the best solution. When Mr. Rodin installed a fence on the other side of the
road it was repeatedly knocked down until he installed reinforcements to the fence
posts. I have attached a picture of one type of barrier that is used in the town to limit the
movement of cars and trucks. This would be similar, although more attractive, to the
metal barrier at the end of the road.
I look forward to the opportunity to discuss this matter with you and to hear your
thoughts on how we can best protect the marsh land.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerly,
