OF SOLID WASTE Re: Town of Southold Landfill Gas Monitoring Well Monitoring Program, Second Quarter 2010 H2M Project No. SOHT10-01 Dear Mr. Bunchuck: As detailed in our letter proposal dated March 10, 2009, our office conducted landfill gas monitoring for the existing fifteen gas monitoring wells (located in the southwest, south, and southeast perimeter of the landfill) at the Town of Southold Landfill located on Middle Road (CR 48) in Cutchogue, New York. The monitoring program was conducted on June 15, 2010, and the wells were monitored with a GEM 2000 Plus Landfill Gas Surveyor. Weather conditions on June 15, 2010, were observed to be sunny and approximately 70 degrees Farenheit with slight winds onsite. Enclosed with this letter are Figure 1 and Table 1. Figure 1 shows the approximate locations of these gas monitoring wells, and Table 1 lists these gas, monitoring wells and their corresponding levels of carbon monoxide, oxygen, hydrogen sulfide and lower explosive limit (LEL) for methane as measured on June 15, 2010. The levels listed in Table 1 indicate that there is currently a potential for combustible gas migration beyond the boundary of the landfill in the vicinity of GMW-6 and GMW-11 (located in the eastern and northern portions of the landfill, respectively). These monitoring results continue a trend of previously elevated methane levels in GMW-6 and GMW-11. The next quarterly round of monitoring is expected to be conducted during 2011. If any questions should arise, please contact the undersigned at (631) 756-8000.
