OF SOLID WASTE Dear Mr.Bunchuck: ) As detailed in our letter proposal dated May 23, 2006 our office conducted a round of monitoring for the methane gas well monitoring program for the Town of Southold Sanitary Landfill located on Middle Road (CR 48) in Cutchogue. The monitoring program was conducted on June 26, 2006 for the fifteen (15) gas monitoring wells at the southwest, south and southeast perimeter of the landfill. Figure 1 is provided which indicates the location of the gas monitoring wells at the landfill. The field_program included the measurement of oxygen and combustible gases for each of the wells as required by NYSDEC. The H2M personnel.utilized an MSA Orion Multi-gas Detector to monitor for oxygen and combustible gas (percent of lower explosive limit [LEL]) from the sampling ports of the gas monitoring wells: The following table summarizes the findings of the June 26,2006 gas monitoring program: Percent Gas Probe LEL Percent Oxygen GMW-1 0 20.3 GMW-2 0 20.0 GMW-3 0 19.5 GMW-4 0 19.6 GMW-5 4 10.8 GM,TW-6 >100 5.5 O.N Y-7 0 1—^r.v GMW-8 0 14.7 GMW-9 0 18.8 GMW-10 0 14.2 GMW-11 >100 0.2 GMW-12 0 16.7 GMW-13 0 16.4 GMW-14 0 17.8 GMW-15 0 18.5 The results indicate that there is currently a threat of combustible gas migrating beyond the boundary of the landfill in the vicinity of GMW-6 and GMW-11 located in the southeast and east portions of the ENGINEERS ► ARCHITECTS ► SCIENTISTS ► PLANNERS ►'• SURVEYORS r U2MGROUP James Bunchuck August 17, 2006 Page 2 landfill.
