There are dead trees that need to be removed and a few trees that are very close to the house that need to be removed or trimmed back before damage is done. We have marked the trees with red ribbon. We give you permission to enter onto the property to review this situation. As indicated in e-mails between us and Diane DiSalvo of your office, we understand that we are required to use a licensed tree removal company once the approval is given. We would like a list of theses companies so that we can obtain estimates. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. The Board of Trustees reviewed your request to remove seven (7) trees that are located in your yard and within 100' of the wetlands. These trees were reviewed and seen by Trustee Elizabeth Peeples on August 29, 2022. The Board of Trustees determined that these seven (7) trees may be removed at this time with the replacement of 3-4 new trees seaward of the house. No permit will be required in order to perform this work. Any other activity within 100' of the wetland boundary requires a permit from this office. This is not a determination from any other agency. Also, be advised that Southold Town has a Coastal Contractor's law—which means that any work done by a contractor/landscaper within Trustee jurisdiction requires the contractor to hold a Coastal Contractor's License or fines can be imposed to homeowner and/or contractor. Not sure who Mike Johnson is or what company he works for—but I wanted to inform you of this.
