Pursuant to section 267 of the Town Law and the provisions
of the Amended Building Zone Ordinance of the Town of southold,
Suffolk County, New York, public hearings will be held by the
Zoning Board of Appeals of the TOWl of Southold, at the Town
Clerk Office, Main Road, southold, New York, on May 24, 1962,

REASON FOR APPEAL
" Continued"
1. STRICT APPLICATION OF THE ORDINANCE would produce practical difficulties or unneces~
sary HARDSHIP because
This house was built before the ordinance, and the interior was
designed with a porch planned at this location. The planned porch
is a small, low structure with screening only; no glass or other
enclosure is planned. The land is approx. 82' wide at this point
so the 35' set-back would be quite a hardship.
2. The hardship created is UNIQUE and is not shared by all properties alike in the immediate
vicinity of this property and in this use district because
Although the land fronts on Soundview, the house faces the ~ight-of-
way, as do the other houses in that immediate area. Also, the house
is well locatedfore & aft on the land, so it is quite secluded.
3. The Variance would observe the spirit of the Ordinance and WOULD NOT CHANGE THE
CHARACTER"OF THE.DISTRICT because
The house is set back 55' from the right-ot-way, which is the road
the house "faces. The plot is over 200' deep along the Soundview
Ave. line, so the small house is almost lost when the length of the
land is considered.
I feel that the porch would not change the character of the area.

c. The work covered by this application may not be com menced before issuance of Building Permit.
