THIS IS TO CERTIFY THAT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED BY THE '
SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD AT A REGULAR MEETING HI=! n ON FEBRUARY 23, '1995:
WHEREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Southoid wishes to provide a
safe workin9 environment for all employees; and
WHEREAS, all employees have a right to know about potentially hazardous
chemicals in the work place; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold hereby designates
Solid Waste Coordinator James Bunchuck as the Town's Hazardous
Communication Coordinator; and be it
FURTHER RI:SOlVED that the Town Board hereby adopts the following
Hazard Communications Policy:
HAZARD COMMUNICATION POLICY
POLICY
Town employees are Southold Town's most important asset; providing them
with a safe and healthy work environment is a prhnary Town responsibility.
It is the policy of the Town Board of the Town of Southold that every
employee is entitled to work in a safe and healthful environment.
When employees enter Town of Southold employment they have a right to
know th hazardous chemicals with which they work or to which they could
be exposed, and the measures they can take to avoid injury or i~lness
when working with these chemicals. The Town provides information and
tra~u~n=~ in order to reduce the possibility of accidental exposure and to
comply with the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard.
PURPOSE
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration Hazard Communication
Standard (9.9 CFR 1910.1200) requires that all employers develop and
implen~ent a "writIen hazard communication program.". Sou+~hoid Town,s plan
(attachment A) is designed to implement the OSHA Hazard Communicat/on
Standard requirements.
OSHA's primary intent in issuing this standard is to ensure tb~t employee~
will receive as much information as needed concerning the hazards in their
workplace. This information will be presented to Southold Town employees
prior to starling work, when changing jobs which ch~g-e the hazardous
substances to which they are exposed, or when new hazards are
introduced into their work area.
The purpose of this plan is to ensure that:
All employees are aware of our Hazard Com,nunfcation CompI~nc~
and to ensure that it is available to all employees, theire designated
representatives, and OSHA.
All hazardous chemicals used in the workplace are labeIed and a lfst
of chemicals is maint~ued.
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are availabie for ail h~zardous
chemicals.
· Employees receive information and training so tbst they are informed
of the requirements of the standards and trained about hazards in
workplace.
All person~ involved in non-routine work tasks are informed of the
hazards of such tasks.
Contractors and their employees are informed of hazards before
performing work in Town faeilites, and sub-contractors i~form us of
hazardous materials brought into Town facilities, and the Town
procedures in place to deal with hazards encountered on job sites to which
employees may be sent.
