RE: 435 Skippers Lane, Orient,NY SCTM No. 1000-24-2-3

RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS, 435 Skippers Lane, Orient,New York is on the Town of Southold Registry of
Historic Landmarks, and
WHEREAS, as set forth in Section 56-7 (b) of the Town Law(Landmarks Preservation Code)
of the Town of Southold, all proposals for material change/alteration must be
reviewed and granted a Certificate of Appropriateness by the Southold Town
Historic Preservation Commission prior to the issuance.of a Building Permit; and
WHEREAS, the applicant's representative, Jared Loveless, submitted a proposal for alterations
to an accessory structure; and
WHEREAS, the scope of work includes the replacement of existing siding and roofing to an
accessory structure upon a residential property; and
WHEREAS, the representative presented commissioners with an outline and photographs of the
existing conditions relating to the project during a pre-submission conference on
August 25, 2022; and
WHEREAS, during pre-submission Conference, the Commissioners were presented with
material specifications and samples of. 5/8 inch butt end, treated, taper sawn, roof
shingles and 16 inch Cedar Perfections, rabbeted and rebutted for the siding.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,that the Southold Town Historic Preservation
Commission determines that the proposed work detailed in the above referenced application
meets the criteria for approval under Section 170-8 (A) of the Southold Town Code; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that any deviation from the approved alterations referenced above may
require further review from the commission; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that the Commission approves the request for a Certificate of
Appropriateness, subject to approvals by all involved agencies.

John Jarski,the Town Building Inspector, spoke to you last week about what's needed in order to receive an approval
from the HPC. Repairing the roof is unregulated, but replacing the roof and siding will need additional paperwork and
information as follows:
• HARDCOPIES: One Original(original signatures)and two copies of the application.
• Property survey or site plan(see#7 of instruction page of application)
• Specifications of material to be used(see# 8 of instruction page of application)
• Samples, supporting material (see#9 of instruction page of application)
We have photos of the subject building.

Thanks for getting back to me. Nearly every house on this block has an asphalt roof and we want to go
back in kind with wood -which is undeniably historic. Is there a way to expedite this and not waste
everyone's time, including yours? Can we strip the roof and prepare for whatever roof you approve?
Happy to discuss further with whoever makes the final determination.

Happy to take siding out,just didn't want to make everyone go through this hassle more than once.
Really just want to put a historic wood roof back on this garage, as was the case since its existence.And
eventually replace the siding with what has also been on the building since before any of us were born.
I'll send the originals ASAP. If there's any easy way to convey this is all about replacing the historically
original cladding in kind I feel that would help relieve everyone of unnecessary legwork.

According to the Town Code, and Handbook, a full submission of
"items to be included" is required; i.e. materials, site plan or survey,
building elevations showing materials and samples. (3 copies)
