Dear Mr. Wolff,
Please be advised that this office has received information regard the use of your
garage as habitable space. This use is not permitted by Town Code sections 45-
15C and 100-284A. 1 which read as follows;
§ 45-15. Certificate of occupancy required;
C. No change shall be made in the use or type of occupancy of an existing
building unless a certificate of occupancy authorizing such change shall
have been issued by the Building Inspector.
§ 100-284. Certificates of occupancy.
A. A certificate of occupancy shall be applied for from the Building Inspector
and it shall be unlawful to do any of the following until a certificate of occupancy
is issued therefor:
(1) Occupancy and use of a building erected, reconstructed, restored,
structurally altered or moved or any change in use of an existing building.
Please take the steps necessary to remedy this violation.

To Whom it may concern:
From 1961 till 1990 1 worked for and with J.A. Kenniff and remember him
hay'rog John Haurus of Cutchogue construct his multi-car garage. To the best
of my knowledge this was done in 1975. One of the features that he
incorporated was a studio/apartment on the second floor. I recall him telling
me that he was allowed to have a cooking facility and that Howard Terry had
assured him that it was an allowable use. At the time of construction he had
the cooking module and refrigerator installed.
Over the years that he owned the house, the apartment was used by many,
both family and visitors.
