I should have mentioned, additionally, that there are no sidewalks on Wiggins, forcing pedestrians into the street. When cars are parked on the street, and there's a ferry line, and two way traffic, all in the same place, chaos reigns. As I'm sure you know, eastbound traffic for the Shelter Island Ferry is directed to go south on 9th Street and then East on Wiggins Street, which, in and of itself, seems to be a good plan. Greenport Village extends West, on Wiggins, until about halfway between 6th and 7th Streets. What I've been seeing for a while is that when there's no ferry line that extends farther West than 6th Street, many cars are speeding between 9th and 6th Streets, where there is finally a stop sign. There are no stop signs between those two streets, 3 blocks. And by speeding I mean racing, going way too fast for this particular setting. I'd remind you that this is exactly one block from the Greenport School and the area is filled with residents walking and biking, walking their dogs (like I do), and school kids. Please take action to slow down this 1 traffic, it's actually scary to see and deal with. Thank you - Marty Heitner, 917.587.0766 ATTENTION: This email came from an external source.
