The building was moved to Wells Rd., Peconic, and re- cently demolished--all debris being removed. Part of the foundation remains and the lot, graded up to the elevation of the t~p of the remaining foundation, leaves an unguarded, verticle drop of over 5 feet--a dangerous situation. Such unguarded holes should be filled, regraded, or fenced. Please attend to correcting this immediately. Sine erely, GEORGE H. FISHER SENIOR BUILDING INSPECTOR Peconic, Wells Road New York 11958 June 8, 1979 Mr. George Fisher, Building Inspector Town Hall, Main Road Southold, New York 11971 Dear Mr. Fisher: In June, 1977 the James A. Brownie & Sons, contractors, moved a old deserted house from the Main Road onto Wells Road. Immediately it attracted the attention of our neighborhood children. Soon they were able to enter it, even to the upper floor, and play games. From my back yard I could hear them and see them occasionally when looking out of the windows. In winter months older boys found the first floor of the house a good place from which to take a run and jump on the accumulated snow below. I could see how much they were enjoying it. Another time a group of children gathered cement blocks left on the grounds and built themselves a play-hOuse. The roof consisted of heavy'boards and other heavy construction material which hung precariously over their heads. I warned them about the dangers of what they were doing. Soon after that somebody took the house down. The children have not attempted to put it together again. This old structure located some forty feet away from our property and across the street from other fine homes it not only a constant danger to children, it is also a detriment to our street and residents. O~r properties are no longer worth as much as previously assessed. The depreciation of our investments is becoming a serious concern to all of us on Wells Road. I earnestly urge you to take whatever legal action may be nec- essary to correct this situation and restore our confidence in those who h~v~ been chosen to govern our township. ~. Mr. George Fisher Building Inspector Town of Southold Town Hall, Main Road Southold, New York 11971 Subject: Old Frame House relocated on ~ells Road, Peconic, N.Y. Dear ~. Fisher: Pursuant to our conversation last week, I submit the following information relative to the old frame house relocated on ~ells Road, Peconic from its former location on the corner of Indian Neck Lane and M~inRoad, Peconic. This house, in its present state of decay, is an abomination to our pride in our neighborhood. ~his eyesore has been in a state of no action for the past two years. Eo?e importantly, it is a hazard to our young children in the neighborhood. On numerous occasions, I have observed young children and teen-ages clamoring in and out of this house. If they become seriously hurt, is the Town Board willing to accept the responsibility for liability? I realize the wheels of Town Government turn slowly, but two years is no movement at all. If this blotch remains, every resident on this block should have the right to request a reduction in assessed valuatien. Mope springs eternal and we would hope that some positive action can at last be initiated by the Town Board. 765-1124 Sworn to before~ne this~lth day of %~e, 1979 · Notary Public ~ ~$ABETTE C. Building Inspector Memorandum from . . . . BUILDING INSPECTOR'S OFFICE TOWN OF SOUTHOLD TOWN HALL, SOUTHOLD, N'. Y. 11971 765-1802 TOWN OF SOUTHOLD OFFICE OF BUILDING INSPECTOR TOWN HALL SOUTHOLD, N. Y. 11971 TEL. 765-1802 January 17, 1979 On this date I made an inspection of the Kim Brownie property located at 3210 Wells Road, Peconic. The following conditions exist there: 1. Foundation was backfilled, no inspection had been made. Large openings in foundation walls, approximately 4 to 5 blocks left out of each opening "17 opmnings", large open area where cellar doors are to go. Very dangerous. 2. All window & door openings also chimney opening are left uncovered. There are approximately 36 openings in this dwelling. By leaving these openings uncovered it creates two conditions. First, children enter thru these oepnings and play there. Second, buildings shall be maintained so that protection is provided for all structural members which may become structurally unsound if left unprotected. This is already happening. 3. I observed thru the doors and window openings that the floors were badly rotten and sagging considerably making it unsafe to walk thru this dwelling. 4. In the front yard of this property is 4 pairs of large wheels used for moving this dwelling. They have been there for 18 months or longer.
