APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY
Instructions
A. This application must be filled in typewriter OR ink, and submitted in DUPLICATE to the Building
Inspector with the following; for new buildings or new use:
1. Final survey of property with accurate location of all buildings, property lines, streets, and
unusual natural or topographic features.
2. Final approval of Health Dept. of water supply and sewerage disposol--(S-9 form or equal).
3. Approval of electrical installation from Board of Fire Underwriters.
4. Commercial buildings, Industrial buildings, Multiple Residences and similar buildings and
installations, a certificate of Code compliance from the Architect or Engineer responsible for
the building.
5. Submit Planning Board approval of completed site plan requirements where applicable.
B. For existing buildings (prior to April 1957), Non-conforming uses, or buildings and "pre-existing"
land uses:
1. Accurate survey of property showing all property lines, streets, buildings and unusual natural
or topographic features.
2. Sworn statement of owner or previous owner as to use, occupancy and condition of buildings.
3. Date of any housing code or safety inspection of buildings or premises, or other pertinent
formation required to prepare a certificate.

Dear Mr. Terry,
I am writing to inquire about the possibility of a variance
from the Southcld Town Building Code. I have put an exten-
sion on my house in Cutchogue and in doing so one window was
removed from the existing bedroom. There is now one window
which is not the required size for the room.
It would be a real difficulty for me at present to have that
existing window enlarged with my present finances. Also it
would delay obtaining the final Certification of Occupancy.
Although I realize it does not meet the building code of
Southold Town's requirements, I feel it allows sufficient
air and light for the room.
I am, therefore, asking your Office to grant a variance to the
Code so that work may be completed at the house in Cutchogue,
which is situated at the corner of Stillwater and Track
Avenues.
May I say at this time that I appreciate Southold's Code of
Building. All the other violations of that Code which the
Inspector, Mr. Hinderman, found have assisted me in telling
the Builder that his final work has not been satisfactory.
Mr. Stevens is complying with the Code and is correcting them.
I am hopeful that the work will be completed very soon so
that I may obtain the Certificate of Occupancy and be able to
use the place especially for the summer months.

self. All of this is recorded with the Clerk's
Office. The mortgage on the prope~$y originally
owned by my parents is clear and free.
I would like to start work on the extension as soon
as this is cleared with your office. I appreciate

your help.
