Park District Board ®uthold Town Clerk
Since 1977, 45 years ago, my wife, myself and family have
enjoyed Founders Landing. Up through 2020, although
bathrooms were closed around 4:30- S:OOPM, as always, the
parking lot was left open. Now last year (2021) all cars had to
vacate the parking lot at 4:30PM during July and August and
.the gate is closed. The question ,is WHY ??? Leaving the parking-
lot open for the past 43 years, that I've been here, was fine, but
not now. Leaving the lot open from the day following Labor Day
through June is also fine. Question is why are residents
punished during the-summer months. Residents ( people with
Park stickers ) are required to leave the beach, move their
vehicles and find a space ( If that is at all possible -.some
people Must-go- a block andT even more to relocate their
vehicles-)'They then"have to navigate a large chain link fence to.
rejoin their families. At 5:30, 6:OOPIVI or whenever a group
decides to leave the beach, they must take coolers, chairs,
.beach equipment, etc over, the large chain and walk with family
to their cars.
Maybe I'm wrong, but, I feel the major responsibility of the
Park District Board is to provide park district residents with the
best recreation ffacilities possible. THAT'S YOUR JOB!!!!
It should be noted that looking at the demographics of
Southold Town, the median age of females is 56 and males is
54. Fact is the majority of the folks in Southold are retired or up
-in years. I often see older people coming to Founders after
4:30PM climbing the large chain link fences with beach
equipment, etc. -- ARE WE LOOKING FOR RN ACCIDENT ? , -
SEVERE INJURY?, A LAW SUIT?
I'm over 80 years old and like most seniors stay out of the sun
until later in the day because of skin cancer concerns. I often go
to the beach at around-5PM and I'm faced. with the chain link .
WHY ARE YOU MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR OLD FOLKS? ARE YOU
PREJUDICE AGAINST SENIORS OR WHAT?
Mattituck has a similar park on the bay and guess what? There
open until 7:OOPM or 8:OOPM.
I assume you know there several petitions around and I've been
asked to sigh: -W°HY ARE YOU HARASSING PARK DISTRICT
RESIDENTS?? I don't think that's the purpose of your board'.
I wonder - How many beaches in the world close at 4:30 PM
during summer months ???
