TOWN OF SOUTHOLD
Permit No.: 10164A
Date of Receipt of Application: May 26, 2022
Applicant: Benjamin & Carolyn Bennett
SCTM#: 1000-45-6-9.2
Project Location: 1220 9th Street, Greenport
Date of Resolution/Issuance: June 15, 2022
Date of Expiration: June 15, 2024
Reviewed by: Eric Sepenoski, Trustee
Project Description: Remove non-native species and dead tree limbs from 100' buffer
area and replant with native grasses for a long-term rehabilitation of land.
Findings: The project meets all the requirements for issuance of an Administrative
Permit set forth in Chapter 275 of the Southold Town Code. The issuance of an
Administrative Permit allows for the operations as indicated on the project plan prepared
by Carolyn Bennett, received on May 26, 2022, and stamped approved on June 15,
2022.
Special Conditions: The five (5) mature trees in a line along the landward edge of the
property remain undisturbed; the twenty-five (25) or more trees along the seaward edge
be minimally pruned of dead limbs only; and the invasives — bittersweet, poison ivy
sweet briar and wineberry be removed and replanted with native grasses or shrubs.
Inspections: Final Inspection.
If the proposed activities do not meet the requirements for issuance of an Administrative
Permit set forth in Chapter 275 of the Southold Town Code, a Wetland Permit will be
required.
This is not a determination from any other agency.

Field Notes,June 7 2022
Visited site and saw clearing of property outside Trustee jurisdiction. Within Trustee
jurisdiction, recommend area within 100' be left mostly undisturbed. Five mature trees
planted long ago must remain, as they are, in a line at the landward edge of Trustee
jurisdiction, because they hold the bank ecosystem in place. The additional 25+ trees
seaward of these mature trees must remain in place but for minimal pruning of dead
limbs. i
Invasives can be removed, including: bittersweet, poison ivy, briar. Wild raspberry
(Rubus ideaus) upon preliminary inspection may me confused with wineber (Ruus
phoenicolasius). Wineberry is an invasive and may be removed. Replanting with native
species is ok as long as it does not disturb bank and create erosion by leaving soil
exposed.

Brief Description of Proposed Action; Proposed project is to maintain the 100'wetlands setback by removing
dead branches & non-native species and replace with native grasses for long term rehabilitation of land.
The property has been unkept for many years and the setback from the wetland boundary to landward
edge of wetland setback contains growth of non-native invasive species (oriental bittersweet, raspberry
bushes and others) and dead tree limbs. Given that the invasive plant species can destroy natural
habitats, the replacement of the existing invasive plants with native plant species is expected to increase
biodiversity, replace any existing root structure and better support the broader ecosystem.
