As you recall we did an inspection on your property, as well as your neighbors to the west of your property, and we suggested a meeting with Mr. Allan Connell of the Natural Resources Conservation Services. If you could call our office so that we could set up a meeting with Mr. Connell and our Trustees as well as yourself and your neighbors we will try and help solve some of your pro~tems with erosion. We look forward to your call. Thank you. Sincerely, Albert J. upski, President, Board of Trustees AJK/djh NY blARTIN R, POST. M.D.. F.&.C,G. CHARLES SMITHEN. For several years now, our property has been hit very hard, therefore almost impossible to repair. After the Hurricane Andrew, we consulted an environmentalist who suggested we give the land time to settle. It is now a couple of years later, and everything we have done has not been successful(i-e- planted certain grasses the environmentalist suggested). Maybe, with the help of your experts, we would be able to figure out a better solution, for everyone involved. Thank you for y~ cg~ideration. We have a house two doors away from the Youngmans in Peconic and we are in exactly the same situation .Our house is close to the edge of the cliff and over the years, the cliff has been severely damaged causing serious erosion. About 5 years ago, we were told by the local environmental people that we needed to build up the cliff by pouring several tons of sand over the bank and then planting beach grass. Also we were advised to remove our screened in porch which was very close to the edge and 'which was undermining the cliff. We did all of these things. Now, however, with the several storms in early 1994 and again on December 23, more erosion has occured and we are very concerned about the situation and the damage which will be caused from future storms. During the 15 years we have owned our house, our steps down to the beach (there are 69) have had to be replaced on two occasions and we are very much concerned about the ecology and preservation of our lovely shoreline. Is there any way you can please help us and offer suggestions on how we can deal with the situation at this time and prepare for the future. Our address is 2150 Salt Marsh Lane - tax map no. 473889-68-3-3 ! understand you have already spoken to Mrs. Youngman and plan to make an inspection next Wednesday 15th February of the area. I will plan also to be present and look forward to the oportunity to discuss the situation .with you. New York, N.Y. 100~ Mr. Albert Krupski Chairman Board of Trustees TOWN HALL Southold New York 11971 Dear Mr. Krupski: My husband and I have a house in Peconic, on the water, facing Long Island Sound. We have had the house for more than 20 years. It is situated on a cliff, and we have a staircase down to the beach. The house is quite near to the edge of the cliff, and while we have not lost any land at the top of the cliff, the December 23rd storm of 1994 has severly damaged the cliff and we have suffered serious erosion. I am writing now to ask you if there is any way we can get help in repairing damage - I know the ecology of the county and the preservation of beaches shoreline is very important. We wonder if the county or state or any group could offer suggestions as to how we can take care of the present re and possibly protect against further disaster. Could someone inspect the ~roperty and give us advice? The location on the tax map is ~473889-68-3-6. We are west of Goldsmith's £nlet. Each year the inlet is dredged and tons of sand is removed from the - could the sand be transported down the beach a short way and banked on our cliff? My neighors to the west also have suffered erosion, and would suggestions also. I look forward to hearing from you. I am listing my New York City address ~elow - the address in Peconic is 1010 Salt Marsh Lane - my telephone number at ome is 212-982-8248, and during the day you can reach me at my office, at The ew York Times, 212-556-7218.
