APPLICATION FOI~ SPECIAL EXCEPTION
TO THE ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS, SOUTHOLD, N. Y.
Name Street and Number
................... CuI.¢kogu.e i~.w ...York ....................................................................
Municipality State
hereby apply to THE ZONING BOARD O~ APPEALS for a SPECIAL EXCEPTION in accordance with the
ZONING ORDINANCE ARTICLE III SECTION 300
SU~Si~CTION 9
TItE SPECIAL EXCEPTION IS REQUESTED BECAUSE Village Manor is sandwiched in
between two residences. The one on the east has a permanent picket fence.
There are several trees, bushes, telephone poles and other objects that
would completely block the 'view of the sign unlil a passing motorist was abreast
of Village Manor if the 35 foot set back r~quirement was adhered to. The sign
is presently located 23 feet 10 inches from the edge of the tarred surface and
17 feet 6 inches from the edge of the graveled surface by our measurement.
This is in no way a hazard nor is it so close to the road as to be unsightly.
The design of the sign and lettering took into consideration the historical
background of our co~hmunity. I think if you will examine this location as
well as the sign in front of our plant on the main road in Mat~ituck you wilt
find these signs are an asset rather than a liability. Compliance with the
35 foot set back at village Manor would be unduly restrictive because of the
unusually narrow access to the property. The fence to the east of the r~ad
would block the sign out completely for all westbound traffic.
I heartily endorse the efforts being made to restrict the
posting of billboards and signs in the Town of Southold. I believe we have
complied entirely with the spirit of lhis rule and hope you will recognize
that, in some instances, it is only practical that some exceptions be made
to the letter of the rule.
