REASON FOR APPEAL
A Variance to Section 280A Subsection 3
A Variance to the Zoning Ordinance

addition to be two (2) Feet Forward oF the building
line
t~orrn ZBi
(Continue on other side)
REASON FOR APPEAL
Continued
1. STRICT ~PP41CATION OF THE. ORDINANCE would produce practical difficulties or unneces-
sary HARDSHIP because the present small building erected vrior to the ordinance
is on what is now the building line~ and in order to add
on and make an attractive houses we want a variance to
come forward the two feet mentioned before.
2. The hardship created is UNIQUE and is not shared by all prope~ies alike in the immediate
vicinity of this property and in this use district because t`he buildings now in t`he i~zmedia±e
vicinity are completed. Any new buildings wo~ld be planned
with know!edge of the zoning ordinance~
3, The Variance would observe the spirit of the Ordinance and WOULD NOT CHANGE THE'
CHARACTER OF THE DISTRICT because +..he b~ildi~g is for residen%iat ~se in a
residential area~

Mr. Howard Terry, Building Inspector
Town Clerk's Office
Southold, N. Y.
Dear Mr. Terry:
Perhaps you will remember that I was out to see you
early in March in reference to an addition to our
house in the Laughing Water section, on Hiawatha's
Path.
We have been trying very hard to get a plan using
the present building line, but the results have been
unsatisfactory.
For this reason we would like to file for a variance.
Would you be kind enough to send us the necessary
form and let us know what the procedure is from there
on.
Thank you for your courtesy in this matter.
Very truly yours,
(Mrs.) Edna Antonison

Tax Assessor's Office

Dear Mr. Martocchia:
We own a smell su~mer house on Eiawatha's Path in the
Laughing Water section of Southold, to which we plsn
on sdding an extension.
In this connection we have a problem end perhaps you
could give us some infor~,ation end advice. The lot on
~hich the house is build is an undersized one~ 1QQ
We own the lot adjacent to it which is 129 x llC, but it,
reduces in width at the back to 117
We do not have enough room to add whet we want to the
present house on the lot as it is now~ and we were
wondering if it would be possible to take some of the
land from the adjacent lot and add it to our present lot,
still leoving enough land so t~at the adjacent lot would
be saleable at some future date.
If t?~is is possible, could you let us know how ~uch we
could add to our smaller lot and how we would ~o about
making t~is change.
Then we would like to ask another ouestion. Is there any
way of finding out approximstelM how much our taxes would
increase if we added three rco~s sud a double gsrage with
unfinished space above it to our present house~
If you think it would be advisable for us to corze out and
disct!ss this~ perhaps we could !~ake st] appointment with you.
Therfi~ you for shy help you can give us.
Very truly yours,
Mr. Arthur Antonison

Dear Sir~
Your letter of Feb. 8th to Assessor's office has been sent
to Ne fop answep.
Please be advised that your property on W/8 Hiawatha's P~th
Laughing waters, ~outholdt NoMe is considered one lot as far ae any
building or land use is concerned, Any division of this land would
be subject to a variance ~'rom tho ~oard of appealso
There is room enough for a considerable sized addition to
the present dwelling on the land in your name on the tax map. however
it is impossible to estimate any assessment on a proposed addition
withouta plan with dimentions, elevations, specifications ere.
If you have such a proposed plan I am shure that both the
assessors and I would be glad to go over it with You any tl~e during
office hours and give What ever advise we can.
Trusting the above will be helpful to you
