confirmed because 8:15 P.M. (E. S.T. ), Upon application of Oyster P~nds Rod
and Gun Club, Inc., Orient, New York, for a special excePtion in
accordance with the Zoning Ordinance, Article III, Section 300,
Subsection 5 ~), for permission to maintain and operate a private
club, rifle and pistol range within a structure. Location of pro-
perty: south side King Street, Orient, New York~ bounded north by
King Street, east by Robert Douglass an~ Wf., south by'La,ham~ and
Orient Harbor, west by Douglas, Krull, Frey and Others.

After investigation and inspection the Board finds that the
applicants re,quest _perm~ission to maintain and operate a private
club, rifle and pistol range within a structure. The Board finds
that this club will be open to only the members of the Oyster
Ponds Rod & Gun Club. The Board further finds that this range
will be built, maintain, and operated in accordance with the
National Rifle Association Rules and Specifications. The per~
mission to cperate this range shall conincide with the permission
to be granted by the National Rifle Association so that the two
will occur at the same time.
The Board finds that the public convenience and welfare
and justice will be served and the legally established or
permitted use of neighborhood prbp~r%y'~n~ ~djoining use
districts will not be permanently o~ substah~ia~l~ injured
'and the spirit Of the Ordinance will be observeml.4~
Therefore~ it was RESOLVED Oyster Ponds Rod ~& Gun ClUb,

TEE SPECIAL ~E~CE:PT!O~ IS REQUE:STED BE'C;~US~ : ~e wish to install an "indoor
range" for small bore rifle and pistol target practice which will comply
in all respects to the National Rifle Assn rules and specifications.
Our club is an affiliate of the N.R.A.: and proposes to buil8 this
range in an unused farm building cellar of ample size to meet all of the
requirements.
The proposed use will be set back ~ ~ -- ~

Street: where there_ will be no danger to ~uh~* public~ or annoyance to
nemgh~o~s~° ~ ~ the nearest of which is several h~'~umared~ feet away.
James F Douglass
The proposed barn is owned by James F. Douglass and all lands
for a minimum of ~00ft. s~rmounding said barn are owned by James F.
Douglass thereby affording no risk or nuisance to neighbors. We there-
fore apply for a permit to build and maintain said Club Range. ?~e feel
that we can teach the proper use of ~s and handling of guns here.
