Re: 4955 Stillwater, Cutchogue, NY
Dear Trustees,
Your letter of August 7, 1989 raises questions on two sepa-
rate and distinct projects at the above address.
With regards to the dock, it was not possible to tie-in with
the land grade without increasing the overall length of the
60' fixed walkway. This variation was due to the strategic
placement of spilings on the seaward end to minimize grass
disturbance. The addition of a 6 foot by 3 foot section
should satisfy the Board's objection. An amendment to the
permit has been requested to implement same.
As for the matter of dry wells on the northside of the prop-
erty, this is the first time this subject has been raised
since the completion of the house in early 1986.
May I refer the Board to its letter of May 29, 1986 which
grants a permit to construct a 40' x 4' deck located on the
southside of the house. Among the provisions of this permit
is the construction of dry wells, placement of under-the-deck
permeable materials, and plantings to buffer the marsh. All
these items are specifically related to and within the con-
text of deck construction on the southside of the house.

The purpose of dry wells on the south or deck side was to
prevent soil erosion from a sloped terrain into nearby wet-
lands approximately 55 feet away. Soil containment was the
same objective behind the placement of rocks and buffer
plantings .... all of which have been done at great expense.
It would interest the Board to know that the northside ter-
rain characteristics are quite different. Aside from being
well in excess of 75 feet from the leading edge of wetlands,
the grade is flat and has excellent absorption quality. The
three leaders that feed into this area pose no threat of ero-
sion due to water run-off. In fact, roof water is returned
to the ground and serves to feed a rather lush foliage that
would be destroyed if dry wells of questionable effectiveness
were constructed.
In view of these circumstances, I request that the Board con-
sider its provisions relating to the deck permit and confine
the construction of drywells to the southside of the house as
originally intended.
Very truly yours,
Edward Tashj iar~

Re: Permit No. 3697
Dear Mr. Tasjian:
On July 20, 1989 the Trustees inspected the permitted work at the
site of the above referenced permit. Please be advised that the Board
still feels that drywells must be properly installed on the north side of
the property and that the construction of the dock must be properly
completed as the placement of the dock does not conform to the
requirements in the permit. You may request an amendment to the permit to
reflect proper distances and placement of dock. This will be in violation
if not properly recorded on our records.

Dear Sirs:
By copy of the attached letter and drawing submitted to the
D.E.C., I would apppreciate the Board's review of the
proposed restoration at 4955 Stillwater Ave. Cutchogue.
Much of the work described is consistent with the Trustees'
action dated May 29, 1986 (enclosed). Some of these changes
were not implemented due to litigation with the D.E.C. which
only recently was resolved.
While the letter seeks approval from the D.E.C., it is also
hoped that the same can be received from your jurisdiction.
Please advise should additional information be required.
Sincerely,
Edward Tashjian
