I know that he will answer any questions you care to ask. Also, I would like to offer this letter to be read, or distributed to members prior to the meeting, to present my point of view. I require a new garage, to replace the present o~ which is in an advanced state of decay - partially caused by its position. We have determined that the only suitable place to build is the north east corner, at the back of my property. This location is adjacent to am access road to which I have a right-of-way, as do the owners of the other three properties to which it gives access. I understand that although my house and that of Mrs. Leonard both face the bay - as would any residence being built on either of the other two lots, I ~lieve - technically the access road is the front of the property; thus, the need for a variance if I am to be allowed to build near it. Aside from the fact that the bay is in fact the desirable front for all four of these lots, end that the lots opposite - in the new sub-division - all face onto a proper street provided for them - there are other urgent reasons for our needing to build in this corner. First, the existing drive-way leads in along this frontage. Second to build in any other position would require us to remove healthy trees, which we are loathe to do. Building in the north- east corner has required use only to remove one diseased tree, which would have ha~ to come down in an~ event. Third, and most important: part of my property lies high, part of it low. The house and north east corner are high and safe from storm floods and high bay water. Much of the lawn area end the present garage lie low, and are subject to flooding in winter. Last November, when we had the combination of a North-Easter and a very high tide, part of o~u~ lawn and the present garage were under water. We could not use the garage at that time, nor store a~thing in it, and the floods have contributed to its decay. I might add that we plan a well constructed building, shingled -2 - in harmony ~th the main house, which should enhance the entire property as well as fulfilling our need. ~herefore, so that we may maintain our present drive way, and build the new garage on a high and safe place, it is requested that a variance be granted. yours ~lncerely, TOWI~ OF SOUTJLIOLD B UH.
