Attn: Norman ~ · ~
~dwarcs;
Dear Sir:
Your letter of ~my 7th received.
I am willing to ge along with your item 3 - new heating system
for the apartment building, this wotuld be best - it can be properly inst-
alled at one time.
Some one from the Health Department will be over to check
out your sewerage disposal system in the near future.
As for the use of first floor rooms as marine supply sales~
in all of the time that I have beengoing to the Island I have never seen
anything but ~Mynards own lobster pot building and repairs conducted
in the building. I know there are some unused rooms in the easterly side
in back of the heater room - shop area, but I have never seen any
supplies stored for sale in the building, so it would be my ruling that
this use ~ ~'
will require a variance from the Board of Appeals . especially
where there is a two year discontinuance or non-use clause in the
zoning ordinance.
Fishers Island has many unique problems and customs~ yo~
operation is one of the more complicated ones on the Island and I wottld
like to see it set down on paper once and for all time, Just wha~ is to
be approved there and what is not to be allowed, Gettin~ this before
the Board of Appeals will clear it up.
Will be over on the Island some day soon and will stop by
t~ see you,
Yours truly
Building Inspector

Dear Siri
In reply to your inquiry received yesterday, FAease he advise4:.
1. A~y bulkheadingt docks, dredging eta below high water mark will
require a parma2 from the Ar~y Engineers . and done to their requirement
2, The groun~ floor (3rd) apartment can be abandoned at any tlimee Raiseing
the roof & cellZug haigt~ will require a h.uilding permit, change of
use from an apartment to a marine supply s~ore will requir! a variance
from t2e Board of Appeals. Such a sales area or store would require
a tolle~ and approval from the ~;ew York State labor Dept for the
enterances~ exite~ heating equipment otc,
$. Filling in the low land on the east side of the road for a ~arking
area would require ~hat you purchase the la~d or have a valid lease
with psr~ission to fill and use for harking AND a variance from the
Board of Appeals to use residential ~oned land for business parking~
Enclosed please find a set of forms rartially filled in with
the applicable sectiond of the ordinance cite~, Ail sections on the
application fo~ms must be filled in eompletel~ eigmed and
with a awol~ statement that no one i~ to corporetion~as an~ connection
with the Town Goverr~ent and other disclosure law require~ents, eto,
Tlmstl~ the above will be help~al,
I have been waiting for a progress report or. your sewerage violati~
a~d what ymA are doing about new pools ere,
Xour~ truly

Norman Edwards:
Wants to erect a steel bulkhead in front of his property
in West Harbor along the shore line half way between high
and low water mark. Heighth to be 5 ft. above low water ~-
mark.
Wants to eliminate the ground floor apartment, a one story
wing of his apartment house, and raise the roof to conform
to the code for ceil~u~ heighth and use the structure for
a marine supply shopl~Bullding permit required?~ Would'
such a shop require a toilet?
Would like to fill in the low area between the Town Highway
and Darby's Cove to the water edge to provide parking off
the Town Road.
