The findings of the Board are that applicant is going to erect a Hill's ~upermarket, seven or eight individual stores and ~ moving picture house which will necessitate fire protection for life, limb and property and a water tower will provide adequate protection for applicant's tenants. The Board is in agreement with the reasoning of the applicant. The Board finds that strict appllcatiou of the Ordinance would produce practical difficulties or unnecessary hardship; the hardship created is uuique and would not be shared by all properties alike in the immediate vicinity of this property and in the same use district; and the va~i~nce~wfll not change the character of the neighborhood and will observe the spirit of the 0rdinauce. Standard tower columns are hermetically sealed structural steel tubes having a high stiffness factor which minimizes the number of panels required, reduces painting costs, and improves appearances. The slope of the columns varies, depend- ing upon the number of columns and the height of the tower. Plumb col- umns are generally used for large- diameter tanks, and may be used for smaller diameters where the available ground space is limited. The adjoining table shows the usual combination of diameters and water depths, but dimensions can be changed as required.
