The Board met to review the Environmental Assessment Form
presented by Mr. Harold Reese. Mr. Reese proposes to extend his
present canal approximately 435 feet"and dredge to five feet below
mean glow water: Approximately 8,000 cubic yards will be removed
from the canal bed and -the sides of the canal will be bul•kheaded.(
Spoil is to 'be placed- on adjacent upland. The project is:'located
on- Peconic Bay, Southold Shores, Southold. The Southold Town
Planning Board referred this form to the Conservation Advisory
Council for its recommendations.

The following are the recommendations made by the Council:
1. 50 foot canal seems. to pose some navigational hazards and
the extension could be wider than the existing canal possibly
by 15 feet. Some sort of turnaround in the canal should be
designed at the terminus.
2. Any further bulkheading should be built taking into consideration
the substrata of clay.
3i (Depositing of 8,000 cubic yards of this kind of material on
. ,the '.-adjacent uplands would cause severe siltation into the
existing and proposed canal.
4. The Council would like to -see the terminus of the canal as
far as possible away from Route 25 because of the movement
of the salt water interface inland.
5. Consideration should be given to surface drainage systems
to prevent siltation into the canal.
6. Further engineering studies should be done to insure that
that the effect on the existing fresh water table is'--kept
at a minimum.
The Conservation Advisory Council recommends that the
Southold Town -Board start a wetlands inventory as required by
State law and that the inventory consist of wetlands, within the
Town of Southold, property owners•, total acreage and the .quality
of thewetland. - A .letter is to be written to the Town Board
members advising them of this recommendation.
There being no further business to come before the Council,
Mrs. Conway made a motion, seconded by Mr. Cichanowicz and carried
to adjourn the meeting.' Meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m. '
Respectfully submitted,
Muriel Brush, Secretary
