ire: Application ;;`78 for a wetland per.nit; submitted by Strong's
'.urine Center
This application does not indicate just how the seventy feet of bulkhead
at the entrance to the marina would :
1) Control erosion at the site , and;
2) Prevent further erosion of adjacent wetlands.
The proposed configuration of the bulkhead would seamto create another
erosion problem similar to the one to be corrected. The prevailing winds,
and stdr.ss during the winter, come from the northwest . The present erosion
problem appears to be the result of the action of wind driven waves and boat
wakes on the land to the right of and immediately behind the existing
bulgylead . The force of the waves at high tide is sufficient to scour the
fill behind the bulkhead. This wave action may also be the reason why the
wetland ()-rases which fringe and protect the shoreline to the north of the
bulkhead have been damaged or destroyed.
The proposed bulkhead would only create the same erosion problem further to
the north of the existing problem. In light of the considerable %vinter wave
action, and sumer boatin activity, the applicant might consider placing
th.e bulkhead as follov'-s: / (
