The minutes from the January 19, 2022 meeting were approved. Discussion Items: Randy Wade (public attendee)joined our meeting interested in our proposed Town Tree Code and suggested that we take a look at the Tree Code that the Town of East Hampton has adopted. She wondered what types of trees the Committee generally plants for street trees. Gerard spoke about street trees in general and that one concern with choosing the street trees is the need to accommodate overhead wires. He suggested that in the future we may be able to purchase more of a variety of trees. Members of the Committee attended the 2/15/22 Town Board work session and presented and discussed the proposed Town Tree Code. The proposed Code will next be presented to the Code Committee (with an attorney present.) Gerard once again urged that the Committee keep lists as they drive around town and come across spots for possible tree planting and maintenance for existing. Dan spoke about the problem in East Marion where 51 ash trees have "ash borer" which will all have to soon come down and that this would be a perfect place for us to replant. Dan advised committee about several trees around Town that he would like us to assess to see what our opinion is on taking them down. About 30 new trees were planted at Mt. Beulah with deer guards in place. Curtis mentioned a tree that needed to come down on Fishers Island. The committee then judged the Arbor Day posters which had been submitted from the various schools to Town Clerk's Office. The winners are as follows: The overall winner of the contest is IDA REINIGER—Oysterponds 6th grader.. The Honorable Mentions are: CHASE HORNE — Southold 6"' grade— ADRIAN McCANDLISH—New Suffolk 6th grader; LUNA ZAMORA - Cutchogue East 5th grader; LANDON JOHNSON - Fishers Island 6t" grade. A tree will be planted at the overall winner's school: Oysterponds. Arbor Day is on Friday, April 29, 2022. We will next meet on March 23, 2022—In Person only.
