The Agricultural Advisory Committee meeting was called to order on Wednesday January 12 at 7:10
pm in the Southold Town Hall meeting hall.
Next Meeting(s):

The next regular AAC meeting will be held on Wednesday January 26, 2022, at 7:00 pm in the
Southold Town Hall meeting hall and via Zoom.
Meeting Minutes:

Motion to Approve December 5 meeting minutes with changes recommended by the committee,
made by Tom Stevenson, seconded by Jim Glover.
Meeting Dates for 2022:
Meetings of the Agricultural Advisory committee will take place every other Wednesday opposite the

Town Board meeting week. The dates are Jan 12, Jan 26, Feb 9, Mar 9, Mar 23, Apr 6, Apr

20, May 4, May 18, June 1, June 15, June 29, July 13, and July 29. Future dates will be
discussed at a later date.
Town Board meeting:
Discussion about what the committee should present to the board and code committee,
focusing on what is most important now.
Ask the supervisors office to be put on the agenda for the next Town Board meeting to discuss
Chapter 70 and farmworker housing with the board. Possibly get a code committee meeting
date.
Chapter 70 should be presented.
Farmworker Housing Definition drafted by Chris Baiz, should be presented. (Please see
attachment for definition). Especially if they are moving forward with the new Bulk schedule.
Contact the Town Attorney about the definition and maybe call it Agricultural Worker Housing?
Also emphasize the permit and approval process that is already in place and needs to be
followed from the County, State, and DOH for farmworker housing approval.

Review of the most recent draft of Chapter 70.
A few changes to Chapter 70 were discussed, Tom will make those changes and email the
final draft to the committee.
Send a copy of the final Chapter 70 draft to the Town Board members to review.
Kelp Farming Discussion:
Discussion on aquacultural kelp farming during the winter months (Nov. 1- May 1) in shallow
waters.
The AAC will extend an invitation to the Trustees to come to a future meeting to discuss and
possibly come up with a plan to propose to the Town.
There are a lot of benefits of kelp farming to the water quality, but there may be conflicts with
the baymen about the gear.
Who might be interested in doing this type of farming?
The AAC will also reach out to the Shellfish committee to see what their thoughts are.
Review of Site Plan:
Site Plan SCTM#1000-83-3-12.7 0 WJF Farms, sent to the committee by the planning board
for review.
The plan is for an Agricultural Storage Building on the property.
The committee will send a letter to the planning board stating they have no concerns with the
site plan.

Motion to enter executive session made by Tom Stevenson at 9:10, seconded by Doug Cooper, ALL
in Favor
Motion to exit executive session made by Tom Stevenson seconded by John Sepenoski Jr. at 9:15,
ALL in favor.
