REGULAR MEETING
January 19, 2022 HELD VIA ZOOM/AND IN PERSON
7:00 PM
Present: Gerard Orientale, Jay Jansen; Peggy Murphy, Dan Goodwin (in person); Jill Doherty,
Derek Bossen; Curtis Rand (via Zoom)
This Regular Meeting of the Southold Town Tree Committee was called to order at 7:00 PM—this
was an in person meeting and also held via the Zoom platform. There was no meeting held in
December of 2021.
Discussion Items:
The Committee is now ready to present the proposed Tree Code to the Town Board at a work
session. We will try to attend the 2/15/22 work session. Gerard would like as many members as
possible to attend.
The bulk of the Fall planting has now been accomplished. Roughly 50 trees are in the ground
currently. We anticipate getting the balance of the remaining trees in the ground by early Spring.
The four (4) cherry trees have now been planted in the center of Town and the business owners
are very happy with them.
We will check with Town Clerk to see if we are permitted to add an additional member to our
committee. We currently have nine (9) members.
Our new Highway Superintendent, Dan Goodwin attended this evening's meeting. He intends to
be involved in and work with the Committee, as he is able.
Peggy would like to see a replanting of trees which were taken down by Highway Dept. on Youngs
Avenue.
Arbor Day activities were explained to Curtis Rand. Both the preliminary letter and the follow up
letters have now been sent to the participating schools. Posters are to be sent to Town Hall in lieu
of being picked up at the various schools. Arbor Day is on Friday, April 29, 2022. We hope to
have all posters in our possession before our next meeting which is Wednesday, February 16, 2022
for judging.
Peggy will work on getting a count on the amount of children in the various grades — so that we
have an idea for the amount of pencils, activity sheets and seedlings.
We will next meet on February 16, 2022 — Via Zoom Platform & in Person. This meeting was
adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
