The project seeks to maintain a historically existing erosion control structure through the in-place replacement of an existing low-profile timber groin that pre-dates the
Town's jurisdiction over erosion control structures along the Town's bayfront Together with the surrounding groins to the east and west, the subject groin is part of a
larger groin field that has historically controlled shoreline erosion and stability along this developed shoreline through beach retention;and through its replacement, the
groin will continue to serve that function Consistent with the permit standards forth in Section 275-1 l(C)(1),the replacement groin is proposed in the same location,
configuration, and length as the existing functional groin, and it will maintain the low-profile design of the existing groin, with its seaward end elevated no higher than 18
inches above the elevation of mean low water(MLW) Thus, consistent with Policy 4,the project will maintain the historically existing site conditions without causing
adverse impacts to,or increased erosion of,the beach on the subject or surrounding properties.

Policy 6. Protect and restore the quality and function of the Town of Southold ecosystems including
Significant Coastal Fish and Wildlife Habitats and wetlands. See LWRP Section III - Policies; Pages 22

Consistent with the permit standards forth in Section 275-11(C)(1),the replacement groin is proposed in the same location,
configuration, and length as the existing functional groin; and it will maintain the low-profile design of the existing groin, with its
seaward end elevated no higher than 18 inches above the elevation of mean low water(MLW). The new groin will also be constructed
with vinyl sheathing in place of the existing treated timber groin, which provides a potential benefit to the quality of the adjacent surface
waters through the reduction of treated timber located in and adjacent to surface waters. To the extent it is applicable, the project is thus
consistent with Policy 6.
