Neville Re: NYS DOT Speed Limit Orders Date: June 30, 2005 Please find two (2) orders received from the NYS DOT establishing reduced speed limits in the Town of Southold as follows: (1) Great Hog Neck Area, Southold. Their order is attached. I noticed in the area description that they stated"Harbor Road"which should be South Harbor Road and I will so advise them. 2)Pacific Street, Gabriella Court, Tabor Road, and Rachel's Road,Mattituck. There was no order attached to this one and I have so notified them to send it to me. As soon as I receive it, I will forward it to you. However,with the summer season upon us and in the best interest of time, I am sending these to you now to record and to allow time to provide and post the signs. Box 1179 Southold,N.Y. 11971 Speed Limit Reduction Request Great Hog Neck Area Town of Southold Our Case No. 029903TC Dear Ms.Neville: We have completed our investigation regarding your request to reduce the existing 35 mph speed limit on all the roads within the Great Hog Neck area, as described in your September 20, 2004 letter. Based on the results of our study, we feel that reducing the speed limit from 35 mph to 30 mph on all the roads in the Great Hog Neck area is appropriate. Although we establish speed limits within the Town of Southold, the Town is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the speed limit signs along town highways. Our study analyzed the existing roadside development, intersection development, and highway geometries of these roadways. Based on the results of our study, we feel that reducing the speed limit to 30 mph on Pacific Street, Gabriella Court, Tabor Road and Rachel's Road is appropriate. Although we establish speed limits within the Town of Southold, the Town is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the speed limit signs along Town highways.
