Subject: My awning hardware
Wm J Mills did not provide any specs .
This is a manual hand crank awning that is much smaller and far less obtrusive then the old stationary frame.
There are five others in my immediate area on Village Lane , all visible from the street .
Most of the time , once the heavy sun passes in the morning , the awning is retracted and allows natural light
into my shop. Also when there are high winds, i can close it as a safety precaution .
I had to unscrew the old one and collapse it during a storm , to avoid it being torn and damaged , which was a
lot of work .

Dear Janet,
Pursuant your request for Mills& Co to provide the history of the awnings located at
1100 Village Lane in Orient. We have the following information in our files:
In 1997 we designed, fabricated and installed seven rope pull up awnings located upstairs
and downstairs for Tazwell Smith in Forest Green acrylic fabric.
In 1989 we designed, fabricated and installed the store front awning for Ann Whitman in
Forest Green acrylic fabric.
In 2021 we replaced the fabric on the store front awning and the seven rope pull up

Hi Tracey :
Here are three more pictures .
The top two show the old green awnings and the replacements , made by Wm J Mills .
The third picture shows how i can now retract(by hand crank without electric)the awnings , for much of the
day and at night when i want to control the amount of light or if there are adverse wind conditions.

Subject: My awnings
Dear Tracey:
I received a letter from Lester Baylinson today . It is unclear, but i believe i am being directed to to apply for a
certificate of appropriateness having to do with my awnings .
My home at 1100 Village lane , Orient has had awnings for decades ,prior to my purchase of the property .
Recently i had the old worn green fabric replaced by Wm J Mills and converted the awning over my store
from a stationary to a hand crank retractable that allows me to retract it when it's not sunny or when there are
high winds . That awning is not any larger that the old one . In fact now that i can retract it, it is closed most of
the day and at night, so less visible . The old stationary awning was a hazard in high winds. I have not
increased the number of window awnings on the house . The hardware on the windows is the original existing
frames.
This is an old picture of my house with the old awnings . I am happy to provide a letter from Wm J Mills that
they have made , serviced and stored the awnings at my property for many years .
