This determination is valid only on the basis of the statements set forth in the application for
amination of plans bearing the same stamp and number and to the extent that such plans are subject to the
provisions of said law and code and within the jurisdiction of the Industrial Commissioner. Notify the
Building Plans Engineering Unit of any proposed deviations from these plans; filing of revised plans may
be required in these instances.
A set of plans should be retained on the premises at all times so that inspectors of this department
may consult them in the course of their inspections.
A certificate of compliance must be obtained, PRIOR TO OCCUPANCY, for:

1. Approved type exit signs shall be installed over all required exits. (26.7d; 2.4; 36'2.3r).
a. On the main floor and over every required exit from other floors where there is any regular occupancy.
b. Sign letters shall be not less than 4~/5'' high block letters with letter strokes at least ~" wide.

at least 6" high with strokes at least 3/4" wide,
2. Signs shall be internally illuminated, wired on an independent circuit or circuits used exclusively for supplying power to
such signs and having no sxxirches, fuses, plugs, or similar devices other than over current protection and switches to
the distribution box. Signs shall be illunfinated at all times when anyone is in the building.
3. Signs indicating the path of egress shall be provided at all points where the direction to exits is not readily apparent.
4. All exit doors shall be openable from the inside by pressure on the door or on an approved panic bolt release device and
such doors shall not be otherwise locked, bolted, or fastened during the period of occupancy. Exit doors to or from the
main public entrance or lobby may be equipped with draw or flush bolts; key operated, of an approved type.
5. A separate system of emergency lighting shall be provided with a secondary lighting source arranged to assume auto-
rustically, in case of failure of tile principal lighting source, the illumination of every exitway and aisle and to maintain
such illumination for a period of not less than 30 minutes in any emergency.
6. An emergency switch, conveniendy located and conspicuously labelled, shall be provided for shutting down the ventilat-
ing fan in case of emergency.
7. (This approval is exclusive of the hcistway,) Specificntioos il~ triplicate upon the enclosed forms shall be submitted
for each elevator, dumbwaiter, escalator, hoist, etc. (Form 1~S-602) hoistway; also, it will be necessary [or the elevator
company to submit plans in triplicate and specifications in triplicate for each elevator (Form ISS-603) prior to installa-
tion, and both should be submitted at the same time $o they can be acted upon simultaneously,
8. All required exits shall provide direct access to a street or open area leading to a street.
9. All required exit doors shall swing in the direction of exit travel except as specifically exempt by applicable code
provisions.
10. It will be necessary that the craneways be equipped and guarded in accordance with the provisions of Rules 1%20.1,
1%20.2, 1%20.3 relating to the guarding of dangerous machinery~
I 1. Floor operated travelling cranes having a capacity of five tons or more shall be equipped with two independent brakes
and all cranes shall be provided with automatic stops~ bumpers, etc~ as per Industrial Code Rule 19.
12. Transparent glass doors and fixed adjacent transparent glass sidelights shall be properly marked and constructed, to prevent
personal injuries to all persons frequenting any area, building or structure where such doors and sidelights are located, in
conformity with the provisions of Rule 47.

1. Exits and other features of gasoline service stations shall comply with the requirements of Rule 26-16.
a~ The exit doors from the office shall be not less than 28" wide and the door to the lubritory, if of the sliding type,
shall be held in the open position whenever anyone is employed in the building°
b. The grade door from the lubritory shall be not less than 28" wide, and located on either side of the overhead door
furthermost from the office unit.
c. The wicket door shall be (1) at least 24" wide, (2) at least 68" high, (3) within 4" of the ground, (4) arranged to swing
outward, (5) located in the overhead door furthermost from the office exit.
d~ All permanent electrical installation below and within 4' above the uppermost floor shall be of the explosion-proof type.
eo Llnderground gasoline storage tanks shall be vented at least 12~ above ground but no such vent shall terminate under
an cave or within 5' of an opening through which fumes may enter the building.
2. Protective features shall be provided for all warm air, hot water or low pressure steam, central furnaces and all direct
fired floor mounted space heaters and suspended heating units as required by Rule 26-16.
a. Floor mounted furnaces shall be so constructed or enclosed that all interior openings for intake ot air which may cc~ae
in oontaet with flame are at least 4' above the floor°
b. Suspended heating units shall be jacketed and so mounted that the flame is at least 8' above the floor.
c. Ceilings, partitions and walls within 6" of the top, bottom and sides of the suspended unit shall be of fire-resisting
(1 hr.) construction or protected by a shield of incombustible material. There shall be at least 1*t open alt space be-
tween the shield and the material it is intended to protect and shield spacers shall be of incombustible material and
at least a 3" clearance between the unit and any shield.
d. Floor mounted furnaces shall be jacketed and shall rest upon a floor of incombustible material or upon a concrete base
at least 2" thick entending at least 18" about the perimeter of the funlace.
e. Ceilings, partitions and walls within 18" from the furnace shall be of fire-resisting (1 hr.) construction or shall be
protected by a shield of incombustible material. There shall be a 1' open air space between the shield and the mate-
rial it is intended to protect and shield spacers shall be of incombustible material. There shall be at least 6" clear-
ance between the furnace and any ceiling, partition or wall and between the furnace and any shield.
f. No combustible material shall be stored within 18" from a floor mounted furnace or within 48" {tom the burner side.
g. No combustible material shall be stored within 6" from a s~spended heating unit or within 48" from thg burlier side.
3. Protective features shall be provided for all warm air, hot water or low pressure steam, central furnaces and all direct
fired floor mounted space heaters and suspended heating units as required by Rule 26-15.
a. Furnace shall rest upon a floor of incombustible material or upon a concrete base at least 2" thick extending for a
distance of at least 24" about the perimeter of the unit.
b. Units shall not be located nearer than 6" to ceflings or partitions of combustible material, unless such construction
is protected by an incombustible shield mounted on incombustible spacers so that there shall be at least I' clearance
between the combustible material and shield. Where such shield is used, clearance between the ceiling and the unit
shall be not less than 3" and between the partition and the unit shall be not less than 2". Clearances shall be meas-
ured from the outer surface of the unit to the combustible material. Ceiling protection shall extend at least
about the perimeter of the unit.
c. No flammable material shall be stored within 5' of a furnace ur heating unit.
d. Whero ducts pierce a floor, there shall be provided heat-actuated dampers of No. 10 U.S. gauge steel or ~" thick
rigid- asbestos sheet material.
4. The central heating furnace shall not be located in an area where persons are intended to congregate and shall otherwise
comply with Rule 36-10.1.
a. Floor tO have incombustible surfaoe.
b. Insulated and located so as not to overheat adjacent combustible material,
c. No combustible matetial to be stored within 5' of such furnace.
d. Chimneys and connections shall be smoke and gas tight, firmly constructed and located or insulated so as not to over-
heat adjacent combustible material.

e. Central furnaces in theatres, motion picture theatres and other places of assembly of ove~.~600 capacity, shall be
enclosed by construction having a fire-resistive rating of at least two hours and self-closing fire doors having a
rating of I hr~
f. Central furnaces in places, other than theatres or motion picture theatres, having a capacity of 600 or less, shall be
enclosed by construction having a fire-resistive rating of at least 1 hr. with self-closing fire doo~s having a rating
of 1 hr.
g. Openings, other than doors, penetrating the construction of central furnace rooms, shall be provided with incombus-
tible self-closing dampers equipped with heat-actuated releasing devices of an approved type.
h. No coil, radiator or pipe shall be placed so as to encroach upon the required width of aisles, passageways or other
means of exit.
L No floor register shall be placed in any aisle, passageway or other means of exit.
5. Direct fired space or unit heaters shall comply with Rule 36-10.20
a. Direct fired heaters shall not be located in auditoriums of theatres.
b. Shall not be located within 7~ of the floor where persons are intended to congregate.
c. Suspended direct fired space or unit heaters may be used without individual room enclosure under the following con-
ditions:
1. All portions of ceilings less than 5~ above the unit for a radius of 5' around a point directly above its center shall
be of at least fire-resisting (1 hr.) construction, or protected by a shield of incombustible material.
2. Partitions less than 18" from the unit shall be of fire-resisting (1 hr.) construction or protected by an incombusti-
ble shield.
3. The protective shield shall be mounted on incombustible spacers to provide a 1s' space between the shield and the
material it is intended to protect.
4. If unit is located closer than 6" to a ceiling, a shield of incombustible material shall be interposed between the
unit and ceiling.
6. Kitchens and other hazardous spaces (such as garages, incinerator rooms, refuse rooms, receiving and shipping spaces
etc., etc.) shall be separated from the remainder of the structure by fire-resistive construction and otherwise comply
with Rule 26-5.2 or Rule 36-12.5.
