Recognition of historically existing(pre-1984)trael lift with 50'long travel rails also requested for purposes of ordinary maintenance and repair. Area of wetlands on lot: square feet Percent coverage of lot: % Closest distance between nearest existing structure and upland edge of wetlands: 0 feet ex.bulkheading Closest distance between nearest proposed structure and upland edge of wetlands: 0 feet prop.bulkheading Does the project involve excavation or filling? Proposed slope throughout the area of operations: N/A Manner in which material will be removed or deposited: Approx.40 cy of spoil material will be dredged via land-based crane from 10'x 100'area adjacent to reconstructed bulkhead and deposited/graded as backfill landward of reconstructed bulkhead. Statement of the effect, if any, on the wetlands and tidal waters of the town that may result by reason of such proposed operations (use attachments if appropriate): The project seeks to replace an existing timber bulkhead within a commerical manna with a vinyl bulkhead in the same location to maintain the property's historical method of protection against erosion and flooding. The marina has been improved with and supported and protected from flooding and erosion by the existing bulkheading since prior to 1993,and there is no viable non-structural alternative means of maintaining and protecting the upland portion of the property in its current location. Without replacement and maintenance of the bulkhead, the subject property and the adjacent parking area and buildings located thereupon would be exposed to erosion, flooding, and potential damage. And a minimum distance of 25 feet will be maintained between the proposed incidental dredging and the area of intertidal marsh vegetation located at the north end of the'project. The project will thus effectively maintain the historically existing conditions without any change in or significant adverse impact on the adjacent vegetated wetland or tidal waters of James Creek;and it will provide the ecological benefit associated with replacing a treated timber bulkhead with untreated vinyl sheathing.
