standard mattresses as reference.
• Installation by 35 Ton mobile crane and 4 persons working team.
• The installation was monitored for two years for Biological
performance (NOVA University Halmos College of Natural Sciences
and Oceanography) and structural performance (World center of
Concrete Technology,Alpena, MI).
Monitoring results:
• Significant increase in species richness and diversity on ECOncrete
mats.
• ECOncrete matts accumulated twice the amount of calcium carbonate
from corals, oysters and other marine organisms that attach their
shells or skeleton to the surface of the concrete.
• The hard layer of biologically oriented "rock" that encapsulates the
ECOncrete matts make them more resilient to tensile and abrasion
forces than standard concrete mats.

Key Findings
Approximately a month after planting, the wall started developing noticeable plant coverage
surrounding the planter units. As little as three months post planting, mosses started colonizing
the wall, covering from few centimeters up to over half a tile in certain cases (Figure 5). The wall's
contribution to reducing diurnal temperature changes is significant,with the surface temperatures on
dry ECOncrete° Bio-Active Wall Tiles lower by an average of 7.6° C than a control wall (Graph 1,Table
1). This trend is more significant with plant covered, moist ECOncrete° wall tiles (Graph 2, Table 2),
which present temperatures of up to 13.2° C lower than the control wall. As the project monitoring
continue, farther studies are preformed, aimed at quantifying percent plants cover, thermal effect,
contribution to air quality, and the diminishing of noise pollution.

Dear President Goldsmith:
Conkling Advisors, LLC,the owners of the Brick Cove Marina property located 1760 Sage Road in Southold
have engaged our office to assist them with the design and regulatory review process associated with
much needed improvements to the marina basin and surrounding shorelines on this property. This
property includes upland improvements, marina basin improvements and two peninsulas ("easterly
peninsula" and "westerly peninsula") along the north shore of Peconic Bay that flank the marina basin
inlet. The marina,which is located on the base of Conklins Point between Southold Bay and Pipes Coves,
is a valuable resource to the marine-dependent uses of the North Fork community. To protect this
resource and ensure its' longevity,the new property owners would like to undertake the following scope
of improvements:
1. Dredging of approximately 1,400 cubic yards of material from the marina basin inlet,which is
essential for safe navigation due to shoaling of the channel.
2. Removal and replacement of scattered concrete riprap along the southerly shoreline of the
easterly peninsula with a properly engineered and constructed rock revetment to provide safe
and adequate protection of the peninsula from wave energy.
3. Construction of a bulkhead along the western nose of the easterly peninsula to protect the
peninsula from further erosion and discourage sediment deposition from the peninsula into the
inlet. This will also include incidental dredging to remove sediment from the seaward side of
the new bulkhead.
4. Construction of low-sill bulkhead along the northerly shoreline of the easterly peninsula,which
will create wetland areas along this shoreline and provide protection from shoreline erosion
that is depositing sediment into the marine basin. This will also include incidental dredging to
remove sediment from the seaward side of the new low-sill bulkhead.
5. Construction of low-profile block retaining walls on the upland areas of the easterly peninsula.
This retained area will be the site of the dredge spoil from the above referenced inlet dredging
portion of this project.
6. Replacement of the steel bulkhead around the westerly peninsula.
We would therefore request a Presubmission site meeting with the Southold Town Trustees to further
discuss the intended marina improvements before formal design plans and application packages are
