Exceptions to 2020 Property Tax Exemption Extensions. In the event that the Town of Southold Assessor has reason to believe that an owner who qualified for the exemption on the 2020 assessment roll may have since changed his or her primary residence, added another owner to the deed, transferred the property to a new owner or died,the Town of Southold Assessor will notify the owner and require a renewal application to be filed. Eligible recipients are not required to appear in person to file a renewal application for M reason and may do so by mail. III. SEVERABILITY If any clause, sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, item, subpart or part of this act shall be adjudged by any court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, such judgment shall not affect impair, or invalidate the remainder thereof, but shall be confined in its operation to the clause sentence, paragraph, subdivision, section, item, subpart or part thereof directly involved in the controversy in which such judgment shall have been rendered. What this does is for many of the senior citizens in Southold that receives a senior citizen's tax exemption, what this does is each year you are required to renew that exemption with your updated income information, what this law is proposing is that it waives your requirement to reapply this year or to submit new information. It is in response to COVID and our effort, the State's effort where you don't have to come into an environment where you don't feel safe.
