In a strange twist of timing, someone made an offer on our house and in order for the buyers bank to appraise it, we've been advised to withdraw. It's unfortunate since we're so close to a decision but apparently the deal will fall through if we wait until the October session. Separately I am curious if at a future date, the new owners (or us if it falls through) want to pursue the variance, if they have to start back at the beginning, or if it could be picked up where it left off?
