This construction takes place at an area of high wind exposure and we all appreciate that wind resistance must be carefully addressed. Regarding the rafter connections at the top,there are two strategies used in this building to tie them together across the ridge line. The first is via the use of ceiling joists as seen in section 3/S-4. Where ceiling joists are tied to rafters on each side of the ridge they hold the roof planes together and no further mechanical ties are necessary. Where there are no horizontal joists we call for Simpson A34 framing clips, as seen in our Rough Carpentry General Note 14 on S-5 Detail 1/S-4. Where the rafters come together above the ridge beam as shown on 2/S-4,A34 should be also be used. Regarding the wall tie-down to the foundations,the load path for wind force runs from the wall sheathing into the studs and sill plate via nailing,and from the studs and sill plate to the foundation wall via holddown anchors and standard anchor bolts._ In our Rough Carpentry General Note 1 on S-4 we reference AITC 100;the standard nailing from this reference is sufficient to carry the lateral forces found in this building structure so we did not call out a special pattern.
