Provided emergency driveway repair is confined to the existing roadbed, and does not exceed 10-15 cubic yards of suitable materials, a permit from this office is not deemed as necessary. Suitable materials would mean clean fill not utilizing potentially contaminated crushed construction debris. This is not an approval from any other agency. It is a driveway that is shared by three households and the problem began when CR 48 was redone, and when finished the road ended up being higher than our driveway. Over the past many months, precipitation combined with the normal use of the driveway by vehicles has created a hole, or rut right where the dirt driveway ends and the poured concrete to CR 48 begins. It has been getting worse each week since this summer, with wheels spinning uncontrollably as one attempts to exit the driveway and merge into the traffic of CR 48. There is a wetland next to part of the driveway and we have been advised that, in order to do the necessary maintenance to correct the situation with our driveway, we should inform town and seek permission. We have been told that if we just add 10-15 cubic yards of pebbles/crushed concrete to the bottom of the driveway where the problem is, that would solve the Issue in a routine fashion, without impacting the wetland. We would appreciate a prompt reply as the driveway entrance/exit has been a growing problem this summer but.with further deterioration has become an emergency situation regarding highway safety, and will only worsen when it begins to ice. . Driveway Winnie David and I fully support repairing the entrance to the drive. It has created a dangerous surface with reduced traction at an already challenging entrance to the main road from the driveway. Pools of mud, rain and winter ice are pooled there year round. You have my permission to speak to the Trustees concerning the repair of the driveway.
