Moreover, the potential for flood and erosion damage of the stairway at the base of the bluff will be mitigated through use of a retractable aluminum stair to beach, which can be lifted and stored above the beach elevation when not in use. There are no vegetated tidal wetlands located on or adjacent to the site, and the proposed stairway construction would not cause any adverse impacts on the adjacent beach, shoreline,or tidal waters of Long Island Sound. Describe the nature and extent of the environmental impacts reasonably anticipated resulting from implementation of the project as proposed. (Use attachments if necessary) The proposed project consists of the construction of a timber bluff stairway to provide pedestrian access down the bluff to the beach, which itself does not require a Coastal Erosion Management Permit. However,to mitigate the potential impacts associated with the disturbance of bluff soils and vegetation during construction, the bluff face within the area of potential construction disturbance will be restored and stabilized upon completion of construction,as needed,by way of terracing, renourishment, and revegetation with native plantings, activities requiring a Coastal Erosion Management Permit. The impact of these mitigation activities will be the protection of the bluff against erosion in the area of the stairway construction. 617.20 Appendix B Short Environmental Assessment Form Instructions for Completing Part I-Project Information. The applicant or project sponsor is responsible for the completion of Part 1.Responses become part of the application for approval or funding, are subject to public review, and may be subject to further verification.
