This information was prepared by E2Sys and will be utilized for approval by the Town of Southold and for construction of the proposed system. Based oi the above documentation, I have evaluated the structural capacity of th I existing system to support the additional loads described below, imposed by the solar panel arrays and offer the following comments: The exi ing roof type is as follows: single-layer of asphalt shingles, 5/8" plywood decking, 2"x10" at 16" on center Douglas Fir rafters for Array#1, 2"x8" at 16" on center Douglas Fir rafters for Arrays #2-5, 2"x8" Douglas Fir ceiling joists at 16" on center for all Arrays, 2"x8" Douglas Fir collar ties at 32" on center for Array#1, 2"x4" Douglas Fir collar ties at 48" on center for Arrays#2-5, roof with 450 pitch for all arrays. Structur I Analysis: The structural analysis has been carried out using the following design criteria: Design wind speed: 130 mph Ground snow load: 20 lbs/sq. ft. I 1 I 3 Solar Arrays 1 —3 and 5, Dead Load: 2.7 lbs/sq. ft. Solar Array#4, Dead Load: 2.94 lbs/sq. ft. Total Unit Weight of Array#1: 1360.6 lbs Total Unit Weight of Array#2: 444.1 lbs Total Unit Weight of Array#3: 1128.9 lbs Total Unit Weight of Array#4: 156.9 lbs Total Unit Weight of Array#5: 398.5 lbs The above values are within acceptable limits of recognized industry standards for similar structures.The structural analysis, performed for the existing structure and for the solar panel arrays, utilizing the above design loads, indicates that the existing roofs will be able to support the additional panel weight without damage, if installed correctly.The onsite inspection and the photographs show that the roof framing is in good conditions. However, the building owners are to be made aware that long term build up of heavy snow conditions may produce deflections in the roof structure. If any deflection is noticed, than it is recommended that the solar panels be cleared of accumulated snow more than one(1)foot deep over a period of one week. If no deflections are visible under any snow loading over a period of time, then there is no need to clear the solar panels. Based on the above evaluation, it is the opinion of the undersigned professional engineer, that with appropriate solar panel anchors being utilized, the roof!system will adequately support the additional loading imposed by the solar panel arrays. This evaluation is in conformance with the 2015 International Residential Code, the 2017 NYS Supplement to the Uniform Code, SEVASCE 7-10 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures", 2014 NFPA Standard 70 National Electrical Code", current industry standards and practice and based on documentation and data supplied by E2Sys at the time of this report.
