Sterling,known as "Creekside". There is a photograph published in our 1945 annual Sterling's Catalog that shows my father,William B. Sterling, in his navy uniform in front of the bungalow,as it was referred to by my Grandfather,with a caption of `remodeling a small bungalow at Creekside'. This became my Grandfather's summer retreat where he canoed and watched nature as he was an avid bird watcher. My parents,sister and I lived in that cottage until my parents' newly built home was completed in 1950 on the property next door on the north side. I was 2 years old at the time. My Grandfather's cottage consisted of 2 bedrooms,1 full bathroom,kitchen,living room with stone fireplace and a screened porch on the south end and an open porch across the front waterside to the kitchen door. There was a dock out front built on locust posts and planks on top. I remember the dock vividly as when I was quite young, about 5 years old,my older cousin Joanne pushed me off the dock into the creek causing quite a stir. When my Grandfather passed away in 1958,he left the cottage and property to my older cousin,Richard Sterling. Dick,his wife Barbara and their new young son lived there for many years as there family grew to include 2 more sons. My sister and I spent many fun times next door with Dick and Barbara. Dick enclosed what was the screen porch on the south end for more living space and hand dug the low basement raising it to full height. They eventually outgrew the cottage,move to Peconic and eventually relocated permanently to Delaware. Dick sold the property to Manuel Almeida. Sincerely, Peter C.
