From: dec.sm.climatesmart \[mailto:climatesmart@dec.ny.gov\] Sent: Monday, November 04, 2019 2:09 PM To: Neville, Elizabeth; braggi32@gmail.com Cc: Ekblad, Dazzle L (DEC); Sarah Oral Subject: \[SPAM\] - Welcome Town of Southold to Climate Smart Communities! Dear Peter Meeker, Congratulations on adopting the Climate Smart Communities pledge in September 2019! The Town of Southold has joined a network of over 280 local governments representing over 8.2 million New Yorkers throughout the state who are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to a changing climate, and save taxpayer money. Please share this email and the resources in it with your team. We will announce your community’s membership in the CSC program via the DEC’s Twitter account today or tomorrow. The Town of Southold will also receive a formal welcome letter from the DEC commissioner in the next few weeks. I will serve as your primary point of contact at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for the Climate Smart Communities (CSC) Program. Contact the CSC team at climatesmart@dec.ny.gov or at 518-402-8448. CSC Assistance & Resources Below and attached are some resources to assist your local climate action efforts.  Climate Smart Communities Funding Program s (click link - this is a webpage with info about the recently opened ZEV grant program (additional info attached); and also attached is a fact sheet about the CSC grant program, which is currently closed but will reopen next year)  Climate Smart Communities Certification Portal (click link - this is a webpage)  Climate Smart Communities: Guide to Local Action (click link - this is an online guide comprised of a series of webpages) By passing the 10-point CSC Pledge as a resolution, your community has become a “Registered Climate Smart Community”. This is the first step toward becoming a “Certified Climate Smart Community”. Certified CSCs have gone beyond the pledge to implement and document a series of actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Launched in 2014, the Climate Smart Communities Certification program provides a framework for climate action at the local level and provides recognition for New York’s foremost CSC leaders. Check out the Getting Started page of the new CSC certification portal to learn more about participating. A sister program to CSC, NYSERDA’s Clean Energy Communities (CEC) program includes regional coordinators who provide support to local governments as they implement clean energy actions and work toward becoming a Certified CSC. The ten clean energy actions of the CEC program are aligned with the goals of the Climate Smart Communities pledge and can be a way to earn points toward CSC certification. Attached is a 1-page graphic overview of the relationship between the two 1 programs. Support from CEC regional coordinators is available at no cost to participating municipalities. As you may know, your Clean Energy Communities regional coordinator is Sarah Oral. She is copied on this email. Stay Climate-Smart & Connected We also invite you to send us updates on your local climate-related achievements so that we can highlight the Town of Southold’s climate protection efforts on our DEC Climate Smart Communities website “CSCs in the News” section. Please forward any information you would like to share to climatesmart@dec.ny.gov. I will add your email address to the CSC email list; it’s an easy and convenient way to learn about new CSC resources, funding opportunities, upcoming webinars, workshops and other climate-related events. Others who are interested can visit the CSC Resources and Services webpage and enter their email address in the box entitled "DEC Delivers” to receive CSC program updates. Subscribers can opt out at any time. Now that you are a Registered Climate Smart Community, we encourage you to use this CSC logo on local government newsletters, websites or other materials to promote the Town of Southold’s commitment to addressing climate change. For your convenience, we have attached a png file of the CSC logo. Thank you for your commitment to reducing emissions and enhancing local resiliency as a Registered Climate Smart Community. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require any assistance.
