dear madam: -- Referring again to ycur letter of the 21st and
my reply of the 24th of February , I would add that the State
Comptroller has just returned your letter with the statement
that the names therein mentioned "appear in 'hew York in the
Revolution' , but were taken from lists furnished: by the State
Library, where the original records are filed in Volume I of
Colonel Josiah Smith's Military papers."
The record referred to has nothing to do with any
"Suffolk County Militia - Third Regiment of Minute Men" as
the list is headed in "bew York in the Revolution" , p. 172.
On page 6 of Col . Smith's papers is the only record of the
persons named and this is in "A List of a Company of minute
men in ye 3d Rid6ement, Jonathan Bayley Chosen Capt." The
3d regiment mentioned in this caption was not a third regi-
ment of minute men but of the ordinary militia of the county .
The list is undated and gives no further information than
is contained in the caption and the list of names among which
are names of Bayley, Horton and Reeve as printed except that
Daved Horton is found instead of David Hoxton
