THE SPEC[AL EXCEPTION IS REQUESTED BECAUSE applicant is Lessee and
operator of the Esso station at the corner of i~ta!n Road and Wickham
Avenue, ~attituck~ and has been denied a portable ground sign approxi-
mately four feet high and two and one-half feet wide on the premises o
set
Applzcat_on is made for three portable signs. The station is
back from both _Main Road a;~d Wickham Avenue making window signs in-
effective. It is the general custom for gas stations to have portable
signs advertising sales or various items such as tires~ anti-freeze,
car washing and accessories. These signs are placed in front of the
station near the approaches or near the pumps.
They are helpful at all times of the year and particularly from
September to june when the gas station business in this area is in a
slump ·
In this location no detriment to the area can be brought about
by such signs since the wJ_~dows in Bohack's, Koupos' and Eay's
Kountry Kitchen are constantly plastered with signs~and posters. Such
advertising on the opposite side of the street emphasizes the need
for more displays on the pr ~emises herein°
