I am probablygoing to recommend that they move the show off the beach and put it on a barge. The guidelines call for"3/4"of a mile buffer around any plover nest.July usually brings chicks along so depending on habitat use those are a moving target. I would be fine with the town conferring with the departments determination. I can also tell you that working with Jo- Anne over at Pyro for years, that if I say it's a no go because of the birds, it's a no go for Pyro. I have a lot of respect and trust with them as well as the other major firework companies around the island. Arron, as this show gets closer you may want to put monitoring that area into normal rotation if birds continue in the area. Fledgling time of PIPLs is slated for mid-late July. To add to further concern, we have lost at least 5 PIPL nests to predation and another two to flooding this season. The chicks and adults have not been relocated at Goldsmith Inlet, while we have active pairs at Breakwater(4) and Kenney's (1 w/young). It would be against my better judgement to recommend fireworks in what is shaping up to be a potentially devastating season. Happy to provide specific locations, distances,etc.. At Little Creek, the fireworks are well within the impact area for the nesting PIPL.
