Based on the above documentation, I have evaluated the structural capacity of the existing system to support the additional loads to include the dead live loads,snow and wind loads, as described below, imposed by the solar panel arrays and offer the following comments: The existing roof type is provided with asphalt shingles, 5/8"plywood decking,2"x12"Douglas 1 Fir roof rafters at 90"on center,for roof#1,2 and 3,2"x4" Douglas Fir webbing,2"x8" Douglas Fir purlins at 16" on center for the three roves, the pitch is 300 for roves 1 and 2, 18°for rof 3 (see Plan PV-5). The maximumspan for roves 1 and 2 is 168" and for roof 3 is 336". Structural Analysis: The structural analysis has been carried out using the following design criteria: Design wind speed: 130 mph Ground snow load: 20 lbs/sq. ft. Solar Array# 1, Dead Load: 2.5 lbs/sq. ft. Solar Array#2, Dead Load: 2.6 lbs/sq. ft. Solar Array#3, Dead Load: 2.4 lbs/sq. ft. Total Weight of Array#1: 2134.8lbs Total Weight of Array#2: 1930.5 lbs Total Weight of Array#3: 3029.7lbs The above values are within acceptable limits of recognized industry standards for similar structures. The structural analysis, performed for the existing structure and for the solar panel arrays, utilizing the above design loads and parameters, indicates that the existing roof rafters will be able to supports the additional panel weight without damage, if installed correctly. The onsite inspection show that the roof framing is in good conditions. However, the building owners are to be made aware that long term build up of heavy snow conditions may produce deflections in the roof structure. If any deflection is noticed, than it is recommended that the solar panels be cleared of accumulated snow more than one (1)foot deep over a period of one week. If no deflections are visible under any snow loading over a period of time, then there is no need to clear the solar panels. Based on the above evaluation, it is the opinion of the undersigned professional engineer,that with appropriate solar panel anchors being utilized,the roof system will adequately support the additional loading imposed by the solar panel arrays. This evaluation is in conformance with the 2015 International Building Code(IBC), the 2017 NYS Supplement to the Uniform Code, SEI/ASCE 7 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures", current industry standards and practice and based on documentation and data supplied by E2Sys at the time of this report.
