The, church building was started in 1835 and dedicated in 1837. The main body of the church has remained unchanged since that time. In 1906 an addition on the east side was made to provide a social hall . This structure and another addition on the north end for the church office did not disturb the sanctuary structure. The main side windows and the Palladian window over the main entrance on Main Road are original significant architectural features. The residence immediately east of the church property has remained intact also and was designed by the same architect as the church, Richard Lathers and William D. Cochran. Due to the fact that we are now in need of considerable funds to restore the steeple of the church and reshingle the sanctuary roof, landmark status will allow us to apply to several granting agencies which only support restorations of "landmark" buildings. Estimates from two nationally known steeplejack companies are each in excess of $100,000. Therefore, any help we can have in establishing the status of the church will be most welcome. Please let me know if there is any further information required to present our request to the Landmark Preservation Committee. Thank you for your help. Sincerely, Sydney S.
