Box 1179 Telephone'-- (516) 765-1801 Southold, New York 11971 SOUTHOLD TOWN Of C E 11 V E D LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION [JAN 2 4 1997 LANDMARK PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING Southold Town Clerk JANUARY 14, 1997 MINUTES Present were: Cliff Benfield, John Stack, Ralph Williams, Erich Haesche, Bob Kassner and John Cronin 1 . A motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by John Stack to accept the Minutes of the December 17, 1996 meeting as read. All were in favor. 2'. , The next meeting of the commission is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11 , 1997 at 7:30 p.m: , 3. Cliff received a memo from the Accounting Department that $660.00 of the 1996 budget was unspent-.. The amount spent in 1996 was $4480.00. 4. Status of Landmark Registery - The registery is four weeks overdue. Cliff has been working with Academy Printing, who finally is getting things straightened out. They should have a book ready by Friday, January 17th. The Landmark Registery will be on sale at the Town Clerk's Office. 5. Release & Distribution of Registery - John, Cronin will handle the press release and other publicity for the Landmark Registery such as contacting WBAZ and WLNG. John would like to get a copy of the registery as soon as it is available. Also, John will be writing a column in the Suffolk Times once a month or so on landmark preservation. I ' -2- 6. Status of Historic Site Application - The commission reviewed the form that John and Ralph compiled and made a few changes. John will give the secretary a copy of the form after he has revised it. 7. Fort Corchaug - Deborah Winsor was! not present to give the commission a report; however, Bob Kassner said the final EIS will be out in a week. 8. Library Correspondence - Bob sent out letters to the three libraries offering the commission's help to owners of historic buildings interested in restoring their properties. 9. New Applications - Ralph will check with the owners of the Japanese House, which certainly is unique architecture. 10. Open Discussion - Cliff received a call from Joe Fischetti, who is working on the Husing farmhouse- in Mattituck. Joe is looking for information on the house. Bob will give him a copy of the SPLIA report. Ralph said there is also an interesting brick barn on the property. The commission is available to inspect the property. John Cronin contacted Ken Reeves, the Director of Recreation, as he would like to see a program taught that focused on historic buildings. Probably 6 to 8 one and a half hour sessions. The commission thought it was a very good idea for the fall. There will be an open meeting in the future to discuss the program. Ralph Williams is doing a program on the Atwater Kent Radio -Museum at the Recereation Center on Thursday, January 16th for the Auto- mobile Club and John Skabry. Ralph is also speaking to the Rocky Point Historical Society and will present a program on restoring an old house. With no further business to be conducted, a motion was made by Ralph Williams and seconded by Erich Haesche to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 p.m. All were in favor.
